How do you
enter Cork City Triathlon?

 

Enter Cork City Triathlon through
this link. CCT is a Triathlon Ireland owned and sanctioned event, and
as such you must hold a Triathlon Ireland membership in order to participate.

What distances can
I enter at CCT?

Each participant should enter the race most suited to their abilities
on race-day. Try-a-Tri (Swim 150m, Bike 14km, Run 2.5km) Sprint (Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km)

Duathlon (Run , Bike , Run) 

Aquabike (Swim 750m & Bike 20km)

What are the age restrictions for taking part?

 

Youth Series is open to ages 12 - 17. Sprint, Try-a-Tri, Duathlon and Aquabike events are 16+.

All ages refer to the age of the person on 31st December of the race year. There is no upper age restriction.

Will there be a bag drop?

 

Yes, a bag drop area will be available. Bags must be identified with the bag-drop tag received at registration. No boxes, bags or miscellaneous items may be left in transition. The bag-drop area will be supervised, but no responsibility can be taken for lost or stolen items.

Where do I find my race results?

 

Results will be posted to the this website post event 

Will there be parking for athletes available on the day?

 

There will be a number of parking options available for athletes. You can find out more about the Park and Ride service here. Information on City centre car parks is also available on the Cork County Council website. There will be limited parking available on Kennedy Quay and various street locations on the periphery of the course. All confirmed parking will be available in the athlete guide which will be published on the website & emailed directly to athletes.  

Swim

Do I need to be able to swim?
 
Yes, you must be able to swim to enter the races where there is a swim component. However, the duathlon or relay events may suit if you would like to skip the swim. 

What swim safety measures are in place? 
 

CCT is an extremely safety conscious event. We have a dedicated water rescue team in the water along with a number of spotters on the river bank keeping an eye on all athletes.

If you get into trouble, roll into the backstroke position and signal for help using your arm and one of our crew will come to your aid immediately.

Should you require further assistance, our medics will be on standby at the riverside.

What do I need for the swim?
 
You will need to wear a swim cap which will be provided to you at registration.You will also be required to wear a wetsuit and goggles.

Do I have to wear a wetsuit?
 
Yes, wetsuits are manditory in order to race. Any neoprene wetsuits are permitted (e.g. surfing, shortie, sleeveless). However, you should note that non triathlon wetsuits may not be as flexible to facilitate good swimming technique. We strongly recommend that you practice with your wetsuit in the weeks prior to the race to get accustomed to the fit while swimming.

River Lee Water Quality?

3 tests, 2 months out, 2 weeks out, day of the event. A sample taken at 3 different location on the course. Results are all within safe bathing water quality. Athletes should be aware of the risks of swimming in any open body of water. Anyone with underlying health problems should seek advice from their GP.

Bike

What equipment do I need?
 
Any bike will do! The bike must
be roadworthy with working brakes and adequate tyre pressure.
A helmet is a mandatory requirement. The helmet must be in good working order and the straps must be fitted.

What if I get a puncture?
 
Rules of triathlon state that you are not allowed to receive any assistance during the race. If you get a puncture, you must fix it yourself or retire from the race. If you get into difficulty out on course and need to return to transition, ask one of our race volunteers who will do their best to help you.

Will there be cars on the road?
 
We will have road closures in place for the duration of the
race so the road is closed to normal traffic.

It is also possible that other vehicles will be on the course
in exceptional circumstances. You are obliged to follow the rules of the road in all cases.

Will drafting be allowed?
 
Drafting is not permitted.

Run & Transition

Will there be water provided on course?
 
Yes, there will be an aid station on the course with water.

What is transition?
 
The transition area is a common area where participants rack their bike,  change into run and bike gear during T1 and T2. It is also your assigned spot where you will transition from swim to bike and bike to run. Tip: neatly keep all your race gear by your bike. 

What can I leave in transition?
 
You are limited to the bare essentials in transition – your bike, helmet, bike shoes and runners. All your remaining baggage must be placed in the secure baggage drop area. Note that whilst the transition space is fully secure, all belongings are left at owner’s risk.

How do I know where to rack my bike and put my equipment?
 
Each athlete will be allocated
a designated spot in the transition area. Your transition rack will be labelled with your race number. You cannot mark your transition place in any way. Flags, balloons, and talc lines will be removed.

When can I remove my equipment from transition?
 
After the race, athletes will be allowed enter transition to collect their equipment. Athletes must have their race number to access and to exit transition.
